In practical terms, ECTRC is a voluntary research network. We have intentionally termed it a "collaborative" to highlight the fact that there is no infrastructure funding or paid administrative support. This has been a grassroots effort to integrate emergency care research into the more formalized structure of the CTSA network, to form partnerships with CTSAs that advance translational science and to both utilize and contribute to CTSA resources. The ECTRC provides a multi-site structure for emergency care research, as well as opportunities for young investigators to learn and perform multi-site science. A 3-person leadership group has developed ECTRC mission and vision statements, standard operating procedures and meets monthly by conference call. There is one face-to-face meeting each year with all 53 sites at the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine Annual Meeting.
