Addressing Common Statistical Issues

This module identifies study design and statistical analysis strategies that can help assure that clinical investigations including older adults provide valid information and yield maximal insight.

Learning Objectives

This module identifies study design and statistical analysis strategies that can help assure that clinical investigations including older adults provide valid information and yield maximal insight. It is intended to allay fears that including older adults in clinical and translational research raises insurmountable barriers to obtaining clear and valid findings and reiterates, following on the “Why You Should Include Older Adults” in this series, that older adult inclusion confers benefits and not only challenges.

At the end of the training, those participating should be able to:
1) Identify benefits for data interpretation that accompany inclusions of older adults in clinical and translational (CT) research
2) Identify major challenges that commonly arise for data analysis in CT studies that include older adults
3) Identify strategies for pilot studies, primary study design and data analysis that can mitigate challenges that arise for interpretation of findings from CT studies that include older adults.
