Integrating Health Literacy into Clinical Research: Innovative Approaches to Making Clinical Research More Understandable

In 2018 The Multi-Regional Clinical Trials Center of Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard assembled a workgroup of key clinical research stakeholders to tackle the issue of how to better integrate health literacy into the clinical research process. The resulting output is a website and associated resources to facilitate the adoption of health literacy principles and practices by all clinical research stakeholders involved in creating, communicating and approving participant-facing clinical research information. Highlighting specific cases and examples, this presentation will describe why health literacy is so relevant to clinical research and present tools and techniques for integrating health literacy into the clinical trial life cycle. After the session, attendees should be able to start putting health literacy into practice within their own research context.
