TraCS be nimble, TraCS be quick - UNC CTSA enables rapid response to COVID-19
The COVID-19 pandemic has completely upended our lives, disrupting the way we live, work, and interact with each other, and killing more than 210,000 Americans to date. Because any hope of a return to “normal” depends on antivirals, therapeutics, and vaccines against SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, the importance of scientific research has never been more clear. Even before the pandemic, the North Carolina Translational and Clinical Sciences (NC TraCS) Institute – the CTSA at UNC-Chapel Hill – was helping researchers overcome hurdles in translating basic discoveries into clinical solutions with speed and efficiency.

Clare Harrop, PhD secured funding from TraCS to study how families affected by autism spectrum disorders are coping during the pandemic.

Amanda Wood, BS, RAC is helping researchers overcome the hurdles associated with FDA processes and regulations during the pandemic while maintaining the safety and integrity of the scientific process.
Erica Brenner, MD co-created SECURE-IBD – the first database of its kind of people with chronic diseases who also have SARS-CoV-2 to help track symptoms and find solutions.
