A leading cause of illness and death worldwide is Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), a group of lung diseases that make it difficult to breath. The COPD Outcomes-based Network for Clinical Effectiveness & Research Translation (CONCERT) is a consortium of six Clinical Centers and a Data Coordinating Center whose mission is to pool their expertise to ease the suffering caused by COPD. The consortium has health care data on more than 100,000 patients that represents a unique research infrastructure for comparative effectiveness research. CONCERT goals include improving the health of people with COPD, developing quality measures and effective strategies to improve care and translating effective therapies so they can help the approximately 30 million COPD patients in the U.S. The CONCERT Clinical Centers are geographically distributed and serve racially and ethnically diverse populations. Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) institutions make up five of the six CONCERT centers and the two others are CTSA affiliates.
