Director & AST/ASO/FULL Professor
The University of Florida (UF) seeks nominations and applications for the position of Director of the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI), Assistant Vice President (VP) of Collaborative Research in the Life Sciences, and Associate Dean for Clinical Research in the College of Medicine. This is an administrative position reporting to the Vice President for Research and Dean of the College of Medicine. The precise assignments of effort to this position as well as to clinical care and research are negotiable and the appointment is anticipated to begin on or before July 1, 2020.
The mission of the CTSI is to improve human health by accelerating the translation of scientific discoveries and the implementation of evidence-based best practices for the diagnosis, treatment, prevention and cure of human disease. The CTSI serves as a catalytic hub connecting resources, people and ideas, expanding collaboration and advancing translational research across UF’s 16 colleges, the state including its key partnership with Florida State University, and the national Clinical and Translational Science Award network.
The CTSI performs three central functions: 1) transforming the environment by developing new capabilities and providing novel infrastructure for research and translation to practice; 2) delivering high-quality and efficient research services and resources; and 3) cultivating a strong translational workforce.
The Director of the CTSI drives a stakeholder-engaged process for setting and executing the CTSI vision and mission. The Director leads the CTSI Executive Committee and is the key liaison to the CTSI Governing Board, which is comprised of the UF Senior VP for Health Affairs, the VP for Research, several UF health sciences Deans, and other key institutional stakeholders. The Director jointly oversees the UF Office of Clinical Research in conjunction with the Director of the UF Health Cancer Center and the UF VP for Research. The Director is a member of the UF and UF Health Learning Health System workgroup. In addition, the Director serves as the principal investigator of the institution’s National Institute of Health Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) in partnership with Florida State University (FSU). The current, 5-year CTSA, is the institution’s third award and began on July 1, 2019. The Director serves as the key liaison from our CTSA Hub to the national CTSA network, including participating in the annual CTSA Program Fall Meeting.

To be considered for Director of CTSI, a candidate must have MD or DO degree with research experience and must be a proven leader and strategic thinker. The candidate must be a clinician scientist, actively involved in the provision of direct patient care, with an established, current track record in scholarship (grants, publications, conference presentations, and service to the professional community). The candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills, strong organizational, prioritization and time management skills, and a demonstrated commitment to cultural diversity.
