Senior Communications and Outreach Specialist

The Senior Communications and Outreach Specialist of Wright Center for Clinical & Translational Research provides planning, developing and executing a comprehensive outreach and engagement strategy that support the research mission, visibility and goals of the Wright Center. This position includes all aspects of investigator outreach, communication, and engagement; and promotes the work and outcomes of the Wright Center and its projects within the broader scientific community, policymakers, sponsors, the clinical and translational science community, university donors, the professional news media, and the general public. Partnering with VCU University Relations, will also serve as the Wright Center’s communication representative for national and local multi-institutional collaborations and the national CTSA consortium. 

Qualifications: Skills

•Demonstrated excellence in scientific writing; clearly, accurately, and engagingly conveying complex scientific, clinical and translational research in long and short form for a variety of audiences, including policy makers, investigators, and the scientific and participant communities across a variety of platforms.

•Extensive knowledge of scientific and research concepts, with thorough understanding of federal, state, and University regulations governing protection of human research subjects in the conduct of the research; sponsors policies on research dissemination; and University and sponsor policies for licensed and copyrighted discoveries and publications.

•Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills are essential.

•Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Qualifications: Experience

Bachelor’s degree required in health, science or research communication related discipline or equivalent education, training, and experience required.

Master’s degree preferred.

A minimum of three years relevant experience in research with emphasis on research communication and participant engagement.
