Pre-meeting survey for the 2021 CTSA Program Meeting: Topic 6: Achieving Impact: Current and Possible Future Directions in the Clinical and Translational Science Research Enterprise

Purpose

This survey collects thoughts and perspectives from CTSA consortium members on the direction of clinical and translational science that the CTSAs may significantly contribute to.

Executive Summary

On October 12, 2021, a pre-meeting poll was sent to CTSA PIs, administrators, EC members, Scholars, and other CTSA members. This report of the evaluation questions addresses the trends in the clinical and translational science, and where the field is heading. An initial email request with a public REDCap Survey link was sent, along with two reminder emails. A total of 119 responses were received.

Most of the evaluation questions were open-ended. Registrants were asked what emerging trends they see in clinical and translational science, and how the CTSAs can contribute to moving the field forward. The most common themes for emerging trends were Research Processes /Focuses/ Methods/ Understanding, Big Data Modeling /Networks /Sharing /Reporting, and DEI efforts. The most common themes for how to move the field forward were Additional Training /Education /Workshops, Team Science /Collaboration Across Hubs, Improving /Prioritizing Research /Sharing of Results, and Increasing Funding /Additional or Sharing Resources.
There was also an option for respondents to include any additional comments they wished to communicate. The most common themes within the additional comment responses were Reporting /Analysis /Data /Standard Measures /Evaluation, Research Focus /Focus on Translation and Dissemination, and Infrastructure /Organization /Best Practices /Resources /Coordination.

Most respondents identified themselves as an “Other” regarding their role or position (15.1%). UL1 PI (13.4%) and Informatics Enterprise Committee Member (12.6%) were the next highest respondent roles. Of the 119 respondents, 38 (31.7%) said they had secondary roles within the consortium that influenced their survey responses. Those roles included Director, Researcher /Student /Trainee, Chair /Co-Chair, Professor, and Other CTSA Role.
