Research Associate (Postdoctoral), UW Carbone Cancer Center.

The University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health CHI2 is recruiting an exceptional candidate for a postdoctoral research fellowship in cancer informatics. This postdoctoral position is open for a highly qualified applicant interested in investigating human genetics across diverse epidemiological cohorts, hospital-based biobanks, and within clinical trials. This position will expose the candidate to a stimulating academic environment. This Individual will work with a range of genetic datasets, including genome-wide arrays, whole exome sequencing, and whole genome sequencing. The successful candidate will be closely mentored by Dr. Jomol Mathew. The individual will be highly trained in a broad spectrum of cancer informatics applicable to multiple fields of research in human health and biology.

- Develop novel integrative genomics analyses from clinical phenotypes.
- Implement quality control routines for data and analyze retrospective and prospective longitudinal data for risk prediction modeling.
- Implement genotype-phenotype association using genome-wide arrays, whole exome sequencing and whole genome sequencing.
- Extract and model phenotypes using conventional and machine learning algorithms.
- Integrate data from publicly available datasets.

Qualifications: Skills

- Proficiency with the analysis of sequencing data including next-generation sequencing.
- Demonstrable programming skills in at least one programming language including R, Unix, or Python.
- Ability to develop novel computational methods, algorithms, and data processing pipelines.
- Excellent written, oral, presentation communication.

- Strong familiarity with cBioPortal, Galaxy, NCBI and Ensemble Tools, bioinformatics pipelines, and machine learning.
- Ability to work independently.

Qualifications: Experience

- PhD in computational biology, bioinformatics, medical informatics, molecular genetics, cancer biology, biomedical sciences, or related quantitative discipline

- Experience in processing and analyzing large datasets.
- Proven database management experience.

- Strong record of productivity, motivation, and adaptability.
- Prior experience in human genetic analyses and bioinformatics analyses of publicly available datasets.
- Experience with cloud computing.
- Proven record of scientific publications in bioinformatics and/or genomics journals with a peer-reviewed first-author manuscript.
